Maybe we should have a closer look at the PA library API, whether it
could be usable w/o the pa daemon. IOW: have libpulse implementations
that directly call the native APIs (eg. ALSA on Linux or directsound
on windows).
Another idea could be creating a *thin* (!) API layer, that bridges
to backends of the operator's choice. This, of course, should be
independent of moz and in plain C, so it can be used by many other
projects having the same problem, instead of yet another private layer.
