While I'm never happy to leave old stuff behind, I agree that this makes sense. When that decision is made, it may be worth making a call-out to the community to (a) let them know well in advance, and (b) offer the opportunity for volunteers to start their own project to maintain a 32-bit Intel build if they really want it (similar to the TenFourFox project).
