Hey there,

This email is just to introduce dev-fxacct about a project that we are starting
on next month and that’s something we are calling Payments for Firefox Accounts.

The goal is to be able to allow any Mozilla property (think all the things we
are building in Cloud Services) to easily accept payments in the form of
one-off payments and subscriptions. The Mozilla property will need to be using
Firefox Accounts as its identity provider and this is a service we’ll “attach”
to that.

This is different from Marketplace Payments which is focused on accepting money
for developers from users and things like carrier billing [1]. Whats similar is
that we won’t be processing credit cards but using a third party provider [1
also].

We had an architecture kick off meeting this week and are figuring out the best
ways forwards. The goal is to keep the project as independent from the rest of
Firefox Accounts as is possible, although there’s quite a lot of interaction
that’s going to happen: how does the Mozilla property access the payment data,
can we use the as yet not build Firefox Account Notification queue, how do we
communicate events when the user is present etc, etc...

Anyways, we are on the [email protected]
<mailto:[email protected]> [2] mailing list and on #payments in IRC.

Any questions or feedback welcome as we figure this stuff out.

Cheers
