Simple Scan Ignores Back or Front & Back Selections Fujitsu ScanSnap

Bug description:
What I expect to happen: I expect to get scan output from the back of
the page when back is selected, front and back output when front &
back is selected in preferences.
What happens: only front is shown.
$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
Release: 16.04
$ apt-cache policy simple-scan
simple-scan:
