Attached is a screenshot, taken while the screen was corrupt, as you can see, the screenshot is normal, so I've also taken a photo of the screen. The system remains perfectly usable, however. Logging out and in again fixes the corrupt screen. lspci -nn | grep VGA 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc Mobilitiy Radeon HD 3450 [1002:95c5] I am not using any proprietary drivers and Ubuntu 8.04 is fully updated (hardy-security and hardy-updates) as of 5 Jan 2009. When I use the proposed proprietary driver, 'switch user' causes a complete crash, with a black screen, unresponsive to ctrl-alt-backspace and ctrl-alt-f2. That might explain some entries in the logs. $ uname -a Linux ubuntu-family 2.6.24-22-generic #1 SMP Mon Nov 24 18:32:42 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux $ cat /proc/version_signature Ubuntu 2.6.24-22.45-generic ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Mon Jan 5 16:16:01 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.04 Package: xorg 1:7.3+10ubuntu10.2 PackageArchitecture: i386 ProcEnviron: PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: xorg Uname: Linux 2.6.24-22-generic i686 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/314091/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
