The setting Show hidden files in the preferences of Nautilus is OFF. Of course I can always click Ctrl+H or right-click and disable showing hidden files. But it's annoying! The general setting should apply to all dialogs: if its OFF then all dialogs should hide hidden files. The problem was discussed: http://askubuntu.com/questions/109571/open-file-dialog-defaults-to-showing-hidden-files and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1131710 The Ctrl+H solution is not a solution, its only a workaround...
