** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/471768 Title: After closing and opening the lid on an HP Compaq nc4200 screen is turning on and off periodically Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon I am using the final release of Karmic, obtained by switching to Karmic already shortly after the Jaunty release and then doing regular system updates ("sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade") more or less once a week. The system behaves normally as long as I never close the lid. As soon as I close and reopen it, the screen turns black for a second or so every 2 or 3 seconds. This stops as soon as I kill gnome-settings- daemon. The problem occurs both before logging in, when on the gdm screen and after logging in, on the regular GNOME desktop. In both cases killing gnome-settings-daemon solves the problem, but many features as multimedia keys do not work without gnome-settings-daemon. I attach /var/log/syslog. See the lines containing [drm]. They look like that the system is going through graphics modes in an infinite loop, but on the screen after each darking the screen content returns with the same resolution.
