This is fixed in Ubuntu 25.04. I believe with the changes from gnome-
terminal 3.54.2-2. We also are removing the gnome-terminal.real
alternative.
Changing the behavior of gnome-terminal in a stable Ubuntu release seems
risky so this is unlikely to be fixed in earlier Ubuntu releases.
Ubuntu 25.04 will be released in April. The next Ubuntu LTS is 26.04 LTS
which is scheduled for release in April 2026.
