I have the same problem. I upgraded Ubuntu 22.04 to version 24.04, since
then sometimes after logging in the desktop does not appear, only the X
cursor on a black background.

I switched to the console by pressing ctrl + alt + f3 and restarted the
computer with the reboot command.

Then it works for me - most of the time.

If after logging in the desktop appears, then everything is fine, the
error does not appear during work, during PC sleep or during long sleep.

I suspected that the old computer was to blame (CPU Intel i5-4960,
motherboard ASUS Z97-A, RAM 32 GB, SSD SATA III - WD blue 1 TB)

I bought a new computer (CPU Intel i5-14400, motherboard ASROCK B760 PRO
RS/D4 WIFI, RAM 32 GB, SSD M.2 NVMe - WD black 1TB)

I copied the UBUNTU 24.04 installation from (SSD SATA III) to the new
(SSD M.2 NVMe) using ddrescue.

Now I have exactly the same UBUNTU 24.04 on both the old computer and
the new computer and the error is the same.

This tells me that it is not a hardware problem.

The problem is in UBUNTU 24.04 - the worst thing is that sometimes the
login is successful, sometimes it needs to be restarted.

I'm attaching prevjournal.txt
