Hi there:

I'm e-mailing from work, where I don't have access to my Feisty
installation.

With that said, what happened is this:

1. When I rebooted the machine I was logged in as the user I'd
specified for automatic logging in--no problem.

2. When I clicked on the "start (?)" button on the top, right-hand
corner of the screen and brought up the options to restart the computer,
log out, switch users, et cetera, I chose "Switch Users."

3. I clicked on "Switch Users" and the screen went black, then I saw
the command line, then the nVidia splash screen (I have the latest
nVidia drivers), then the dialog box where you're supposed to enter your
username, then password.

However, the dialog box invited me to input the password for the user I
whose session I was trying to log out from.

4. I chose to click the "Switch User" button on the dialog and I was
given a list of users to log in as. In this case, there was only one
other user so I chose the other user and clicked on OK.

5. I was taken back to the dialog box where I was invited to input the
password of the user whose session I'd just logged out from.

6. Of course, going through the same routine resulted in the same
thing.

I was able to revert back to the way the system was behaving before by
commenting out part of the gdm.conf-custom file.
