Thucydides411's video looks about like what I'm experiencing.

I'm starting to think we may be looking at more than one bug in the same
place. Tell me this, has anyone who experiences the unresponsiveness
followed by erratic movement fixed their problem with synclient
TouchpadOff=0? And has anyone who experiences unresponsiveness WITHOUT
the erratic movement NOT fixed their problem with that same solution?

I'm not that familiar with the inner workings of Ubuntu's pointer
control, but if I'm not mistaken, synclient's TouchpadOff variable
toggles based on whether the touchpad has been disabled by either the
"disable while typing" setting or the "disable with external device
connected" setting, is that correct? Which means if it were to get
stuck at 1, and the touchpad is unresponsive, manually flipping it to 0
would re-enable the touchpad... I assume temporarily until the same bug
occurs again.

But then, that would have nothing to do with the touchpad freezing and
then starting to jump and click and drag everywhere.
