I'm experiencing the same frustration with this bug. Needless to say, those experiencing this bug can't wait until 12.04 to regain control of their laptops. If there are any tests we can do to provide more information on this regression, then please tell us. But this bug is much more important that it seems to be perceived as by Ubuntu.
