My system has stopped asking for passwords twice -- the original behavior has returned sometime in the past week or two. Interestingly, the only packages I can see that have had updates in that time period have been:
xulrunner firefox_3.6.x firefox_gnome_support firefox_branding there have also been some updates to other packages lately, and I don't know exactly when I applied them, but I suppose it's possible there is some strange interaction among other packages.
