Could people experiencing this please edit /usr/share/applications /gnome-panel.desktop and change the Exec line from:
Exec=gnome-panel ...to... Exec=sh -c 'export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 && gnome-panel' ..and report back if it changes anything?
