i was messing around with this bug again and i'm sure when i do i fail login "/var/log/btmp The file is not a regular file or not a text file" is shown in the system log viewer. Also the btmp log is remove from the log viewer. It doesn't give the error message in kernel 2.6.28-13-generic, but if you do a fail login on the newer kernel it shows.
