Just uploaded an Apport report about this from Karmic standard installation. I didn't have a failed login though. gconftool --get /apps/gnome-system-log/logfiles [/var/log/bootstrap.log,/var/log/dpkg.log,/var/log/auth.log,/var/log/udev,/var/log/syslog,/var/log/daemon.log,/var/log/kern.log,/var/log/lpr.log,/var/log/mail.log,/var/log/user.log,/var/log/mail.info,/var/log/mail.warn,/var/log/mail.err,/var/log/debug,/var/log/messages,/var/log/Xorg.0.log,/var/log/pm-powersave.log,/var/log/dmesg,/var/log/jockey.log,/var/log/boot,/var/log/btmp,/var/log/dmesg.0,/var/log/fontconfig.log,/var/log/pycentral.log]
There is a btmp, attached properties as screenshot. It doesn't open with gedit, it says either coding isn't correct or it's a binary. ** Attachment added: "btmp.png" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/33452916/btmp.png ** Changed in: gnome-utils (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- System log viewer keeps displaying error message "/var/log/btmp" The file is not a regular file or not a text file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/401499 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
