Thanks for the reply, Arne. It sounds very interesting. But I'm always talking about the default Ubuntu font, i.e. the font Ubuntu uses when you just installed it (or when you use the desktop CD as a Live CD). The default font looks bad in full hinting style, but looks OK in slight hinting. The autohinter solves that inconsistency, so this is why I think setting autohinter enabled by default could be a good thing. It will benefit many users (the vast majority of newcomers, for instance).
I'm using the default Ubuntu font and the dpi that Jaunty enables by default for my 19" LCD monitor: 96 dpi, for a 1280x1024 screen resolution. -- Autohinter should be enabled by default in Jaunty to avoid font rendering inconsistencies https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/349850 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to libgnome in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
