Comment: The big problem here is that there is no default playlist format on the gnome desktop yet. We should be promoting free+open file formats and therefore the default playlist should be XSPF. However creating a playlist that's not supported on Totem/Rhythmbox is a bit of a problem. Because serpentine would appear to be broken because it would not cooperate with other applications. But going back to one of the problems posed here. Serpentine tends to be somewhat spatial, in the sense that it remembers the files you put after closing it. The playlist exporting is a mere accessory, thus when a users is exporting it knows what it's exporting for. It does not pose the user with the need to save your project because 90% of the times you use a burning application is to burn one layout (like K3B). This is exactly the same problem text processors face or image viewers/editors. The user _will_ learn which file formats his/her favorite program supports. If we lived on a perfect world there would be no need to for this, but let's face it, there are more then one application for the same thing and more then one platform. To sum it up, choosing a good default is a hard decision if we want to promote open file formats in the same time. Generating the format by extension seems to me the most ellegant to accomodate users that already know which playlist format they want to create. One thing that this problem reminds me is that Serpentine should remember the last playlist format chosen. -- desktop-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
