" I have
blackice set up to automatically block the IP address after 3 attempts at
non-existing email accounts. The IP is blocked for 1 hour and then the
block goes away. "
We set up BlackIce on our server
prior to moving to a postfix gateway, but with (at that time) 200,000+
invalid user requests per day, BlackIce on its own was taking up too much
of the server's resources. We tried tuning the settings etc, but ended
up having to remove it from the server because it, like Imail itself,
just couldn't keep up with the barrage.
