If you can identify a fix for your particular issue, adding that to the driver in lenny is possible; otherwise one option would be to get a newer driver in the backports.org repository, which could also improve support for some newer hardware, but I don't have any lenny machines on intel hw, so I wouldn't be able to do any testing for that.
