So I can reproduce the problem as well now. It's been reported upstream already: https://bugs.launchpad.net/zim/+bug/507372 Can you confirm that it work fine if you desactivate NumLock? Something must have changed in X/GTK/GDK so that we now get MOD2 modifier activated as long as NumLock is active.
