I'd like to be sure only the upgrade of kbd caused this. Could you
downgrade to xserver-xorg-input-kbd 1:1.1.0-4 currently in
testing/stable and check that the bugs disappear?

Possibly maybe related to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10308
