Hmm, I had tried that before, and the bug disappeared, but I just tried it again, and I was able to reproduce. So it seems that the problem is _not_ the kbd module. I did a bit more testing, and it looks like it is related to the ipw3945 kernel module...presumably it is delaying the keyboard interrupts, causing the behavior I'm seeing.
