Well, I'm not an X11 expert, but previous versions of xdm (or whatever package for it) read my ~/.xinitrc, so I guess it was the correct behavior. Reading the xdm manpage, indeed, shows me that the correct "init" file for xdm is ~/.xsession. Thx, bye, Gismo / Luca
