Interestingly - I just tried the fglrx drivers myself, and ran into the same exact problem as with the radeon drivers. I had read somewhere that the fglrx drivers didn't exhibit the problem, hence why I mentioned that above. But, for me, it seems, the fglrx drivers do exhibit the problem.
