I hit this problem with xutils 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14, only it was complaining about not being able to find /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/3.3.6/include/stddef.h when the file was actually in /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/3.3.5/include/stddef.h.
% strings `which makedepend` | egrep gcc-lib /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/3.3.6/include After upgrading to xutils 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14sarge1: % strings `which makedepend` | egrep gcc-lib /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/3.3.5/include It looks like makedepend figures out the gcc include path at compile time.
