I'm also on i386. Just about a week ago I stumbled across the original config i posted on bug #347677, which obsoleted the need for that random click hack I wrote. The new evdev driver requires that hack again, plus generates keyboard events ('p' and 'o' on qwerty, 'r' and 'l' on dvorak) when the horizontal scroll is used.
