I believe that I found the source of my problem (although I haven't
tested, as I have an app running and I'd like someone to comment before
trying another VT switch, as I've done so many hard boots already.
I notice that my /usr/X11R6/bin/X file does NOT symlink to anything (in
particular /usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg ). Further, going through my backups for
the last 90 days I see that it never did symlink. I'm running kdm and my
Xservers file reads:
:0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] /usr/X11R6/bin/X -nolisten tcp
meaning that I've never been running the Xorg server. Correct? So, doing
ln -s /usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg X
should get me running on Xorg and, presumably, also then VT switching
will work?
Regards, Paul
