I tried to wade through defoma's documentation (not for the first time), and because confused as usual. The defoma-hint tool is absurdly interactive. I am updating the xfonts-scalable maintainer scripts to do as you request, but I suspect you were experiencing some else, or in addition to this problem. xfonts-scalable already calls fc-cache in its postinst script, and has for a long time. -- G.
