I have done both. I added +xinerama to xserverrc before I started playing
with backgrounds, and hence before I noticed the problem. Yesterday, I
killed xdm and did a startx -- +xinerama to see if it was a problem with
xdm only.
Originally I thought it was an enlightenment problem because I only had the
wide backgrounds set up in E, and it was only a desk0 problem. Now that I
got random backgrounds for the xdm login screen, I am also seeing it there.
The only diffs in the config that I know of are the 4.0.0 -> 4.0.1 and the
compile from source -> using the debs. (and it is *far* less of a headache
to work from the debs. :)
