I stuck a very minimal implementation of this at <URL:http://www.gg.caltech.edu/~monty/glu-hack.tgz> if anyone wants it slightly more conveniently (i386, woody). As an aside, it works fine with the SGI openinventor release, although I also had to make a symlink for it to find lesstif (well, I lied and made it use lesstif1 when it wants lesstif2, but it doesn't seem to care.)
