Yes, there are problems with that, and AFAIR they have never been resolved.
So I guess the best is to either convince gs people to use proper
handling of font names, or to keep the fonts separate.
I have taken the time to analyze "Nimbus Sans L Regular" as provided
by CTAN in 'uhvr8a-105.pfb' and by Ghostscript in 'n019003l.pfb' with
sfddiff (part of fontforge). The differences are not only marginal!
I have posted the result to gs-devel and have been told there, that
CTAN's version includes additional glyphs, especially Cyrillic ones,
which might be a hint that it's not the pristine font supplied by URW,
but maybe an early modification:

Who can I talk to to finally resolve this issue? I have added the two
email addresses of Walter Schmidt (listed as base35 and psnfss
