Okay, now down to the desperate nitty-gritty. Please check your fonts.alias
file in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc for the "fixed" alias. Then check
that the expansion (e.g.
-misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-iso8859-1) exists in
fonts.dir. Then check that the file it refers to (e.g. 6x13-ISO8859-1.pcf.gz)
also exists and is not damaged (e.g. copy it somewhere else and gunzip; the
CRC checking will croak if something went wrong).
