I wouldn't say that it's *required* to "be nice to everyone", but it's encouraged to act with a level of decorum that one would expect of an adult who has been exposed to proper social constructs. Translated? Don't be an ass. It has been observed that you don't have to go out of your way to be *nice* to everyone, but the maintainers of this list (and the IRC channel) discourage flamewars and rants that could suggest inferior breeding.
