Just to go a little bit further. When updating the package, you would also like to change the Maintainer: field on debian/control. Marking the changes you are doing on debian/changelog is also wise, remember to close the ITA bug right in there. The good thing when adopting a package is, just as it happens with new packages, you don't have to wait the (recently) eternal NEW processing queue, since the package is already in the archive.
