Debian Women Weekly News - February 22nd, 2005
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to the first issue of the DWWN, the weekly newsletter for the
Debian Women community. Recently, the number of women applying for the
NM process has increased, with a few people involved with Debian Women
adding their names to the list[1]. There are currently at least 9 women
in th NM queue, and at least 15 people in the queue who are actively
involved in Debian Women.

Bugsquashing
Several Debian Women people were actively involved in the weekend BSP
called by Frank Lichtenheld[2], and mentioned on the Debian Women mailing
list[3]. In addition to this, some DW people are becoming very involved
in bugsquashing activities, notably Margarita Manterola, who has recently
closed a great many bugs in the evolution[4] package.

Mentoring Program
Helen Faulkner called for any more people who are interested in the
mentoring program to contact her[5]. As a result of this, several
newcomers to the project have posted to the mailing list or joined the
IRC channel. All these people are very welcome, and there is actually
still space for a few more mentees, so any interested people are welcome
to contact Helen[6].

Debian Project Leader Elections
Manoj Srivastava has announced that the nomination period[7] will end
this week. The Debian Constitution[8] is certainly an interesting read for
those who want to know more. We will keep you posted about the progress
of the elections.

That's all for the first issue ever of the Debian Women Weekly News. I hope
you enjoyed reading it. If you think some important things are missing, feel
free to send a mail to the list, or in private, so that it can be included in
the next issue. If you have any comments and/or suggestions, please don't
hesitate either.
