I've gone ahead and started to update the package to 3.0.2 a bit if you don't mind. I've also found the TODO-items in debian/rules, that I overlooked previously. They need to be addressed, indeed. I also found the wget stuff in postinst, this really need to be solved! I don't think it can be uploaded until this is fixed. If really necessary we can dfsg-clean the original tarball or work out some other solution with upstream.
