It should be mostly compatible with the original Xaw3d library, except for font management: everything using the old X11 core font routines should be replaced by their freetype equivalents. This library is already part of Debian [0], but the new versions of xpaint and of libxaw3dxft are not part of the same "(upstream) software package" thus, to be able to package the latest version of xpaint, I need to create the package for the new version of this library.
