Hello, >Also, https://wiki.debian.org/Debuginfod sounds nice, but the service is >run outside Debian (on a .debian.net domain). Was it discussed making it >part of Debian? As the DPL, what do you pushes people to maintain such >services outside Debian, and what would you do to improve on that?
I would like to see a debuginfod server running on Debian servers. Btw the debuginfod stores symbols based on hashes, so theoretically one single server can keep track of debug symbols of all the big distributions out there (Fedora/Debian/Ubuntu), without issues. One can choose its favourite server when starting gdb, and forget about installation of debugging packages forever. This would really increase the developer experience, so yes to me this would be awesome to have. >What makes you feel that? For what reasons do you think people are >moving away from the Open Source world? It's just a feeling, and personal experiences are not statistics (there are three kind of lies, Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics!) Sorry for answering only now, and out of time, this is why I kept "DPL-related" answers out of this topic, just adding personal opinions. G.
