IIRC from reading the centericq mailing list, yahoo has recently done
something that broke all the clones.  There have been patches posted,
though, so it should appear downstream eventually.

Ah, sometime after I posted my response to Micha this morning, I did an 
apt-get update/upgrade, and now gaim works again. Woot!
