But with gmail, that's self-inflicted, isn't it? I was under the
impression that you can read email from a gmail account with IMAP
if you want to. Or POP.

If a current member is following a thread on the list, they'll
presumably not ignore an unthreaded post merely because it has
an extra word in the subject line.

As I see it, the problem on this list is that people don't change the
subject line often enough when posts diverge from the original subject.
