I bought an HP LaserJet MFP M234sdw several years ago. It is a so-called "driverless" printer. Your experience sounds a lot like mine. If your printer is also "driverless" I suggest you get rid of all printer drivers unless you need them for some other printer you haven't mentioned. You will probably want HP's HP Smart app on your phone to administer it, even though it is an officious proprietary blob.
