Do you mean the TZ variable? That overrides the system default. hobbit:~$ date; TZ=Europe/Paris date Mon Jun 17 11:40:59 EDT 2024 Mon Jun 17 17:40:59 CEST 2024 If you're asking about programs that still use /etc/timzeone, I don't know of any off hand. I'd be interested in hearing about any that still do, though probably less so than the Debian libc6 maintainers are.
