Unless you use the Debian packages, it's extremely unlikely that folk here

Gene: with the best will in the world - you often rail at "Debian stuff"
which turns out not to be Debian stuff on closer examination.

Any support we can give you in that situation can only ever be best
endeavours, or, more accurately, best guess as to what may or may
not have taken place.

For once, maybe install a vanilla Debian system (or VM) and maybe don't 
add third party stuff to it ?? _Please_ :)
