Hi,

When both snapd and apt sources are available, which one should I choose
for package installation? Though I found the package versions in snapd are
a bit newer than apt.

Newer package versions? You would have to be specific.
This assertion is too general.

Agreed Brian. I haven't touched snaps or flatpacks, but I can comment on AppImages I do use, heavily, 3 because the debian versions are too old or just plain busted.

These AppImages are under development, with fairly rapid updates:

digiKam v7.8, deb is way too old, my 5 yo Canon S-420 camera is too new for it.

Ultimaker Cura v5.1, 3d slicer, rapid development in the last 2 years.

OpenSCAD dated from Feb 15th this year. The deb isn't exactly broken but the 2015 version the deb gets you is about 100x slower. Scroll way down on the "other" link on their homepage to find it.

Cura and OpenSCAD are in daily use as I am in the process of rebuilding for much faster performance, 4 bigger 3d printers that have miserably failed the PETG test. New, faster motors, all new hotends, frame bracing, new controllers running klipper yadda yadda.

Just a data point here, those are my current must haves. As always, YMMV.

An example of an app you are interested in would be
useful.

Cheers, Gene Heskett.
