I remembered this being a User CHOICE for xfce4-terminal so I took a quick peek. It's found under: Edit > Preferences > General tab > Cursor But that might differ completely for other packages. Xfce4-terminal's options are: Block, I-Beam, and Underline. We're also given the secondary option for it to blink or not to blink.
