No, I haven't. Frankly, it makes me feel weak to even think about doing
so. I don't like fiddling at that sort of level of the OS. I'm happy
playing in user space. Beyond that, I tend to rely on guidance from
others. As you go on to say, purging/reinstalling (paraphrasing, I
know) is not really a 'Linuxy' thing to do.
The reason for Brian patiently walking me through some diagnostics is
because he's involved with the dev team. At least I think he is. Either
way, he clearly knows his stuff, and managed to demotrate that;
a) the printer is fine
b) cabling is good
c) networking is good
Since v3.19.12 still works, I'll probably reinstall that, and have done
with it for the time being.
Obviously, when updates appear, I'll try them out.
