Having a spare hour today I installed R14.0.x of Trinity on a very basic stretch installation. network-manager is nowhere in sight. Indeed, Trinity appears to use knetworkconf-trinity as the network configuration tool. What I would deduce from that is that a network-manager installation and removal would leave TDE untouched (although I did not try it). Quite what is happening on your system is possibly due to other changes you have made. But what? -- Brian.
