there is patch down there for 5370 - could be they have same usb ids

Thanks, yes that does look like its the same issue. Running through the
steps discussed there is giving exactly the same results and it mentions
both 5300 & 5370. There is a patch there for Ubuntu from 2014, has it
never been back ported to Debian? Surely Im not the only Debian user
with one of these scanners? :)
