There's a thread starting at https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2015/04/msg00616.html discussing this new meaning of the word "core". Note for example that gnome-core also depends on the "essential component" iceweasel and 5 dozen other packages! > This to me suggests that it doesn't even install without the daemon. No idea.
